Martin Brown sent me these pictures of his Speed
Triple- He writes: A brief history: My Speed Triple was purchased in
November '99 as a sixth month old write off. I put it back on the road
and had a blast on it for the next twelve month's (you have to make the most of any good weather here in
England).
|
I then stripped it down in January of this year and polished the
frame, wheels and yokes, fitted the Dutch made light unit (much neater than
Triumph's after thought) added numerous
anodised gold bits, Triumphs own race pipe, modified the air box for better flow, but kept the
original roulette green colour, because it really is hard to beat!
All in all, I now have a striking looking bike, which gives me the horn
every time I open the garage door, which is the reaction every biker should
have. |
|
The fairing I have is called a Wraith Fairing. It can be purchased along with some other fairings that may fit
the Speed Triple from Matt and Debbie Purdey on
their Buell website: www.mpurdy.freeserve.co.uk or try www.trojan-horse.co.uk
Tell them
I sent you, it costs just under £200 plus paint.
They also import the
French made FSD bodywork for
Triumphs at www.adrenalinmoto.co.uk
The air box mod consists of cutting two square panels out or the
air box, upstream of the air filter, I found this on the Triumph hub site
called T5net at www.t5net.com |
|
|
The high rise pipe I purchased second hand to keep costs
down, but there are many pipes you can use. The anodized engine bolt kit is a readily available
product, I got mine from Tasty Nuts. Try this this site for all types of fasteners from anodised to titanium
at: www.nylonalloys.co.uk
I've
also changed the gearing by fitting a 17 tooth front sprocket, one tooth down from
stock. This gives it more bottom and mid-range pull at the expense of the top end
power, but with only a small fairing fitted its a good thing- better wheelies
! |
Should anyone wish to contact me
about my Speed Triple with any questions etc, I'll be happy to oblige!
Lastly,
I have plenty of photo's of the strip and rebuild, but none of me actually riding
it (too busy having fun I suppose) but if I get round to it now that the first day of spring has arrived,
I'll gladly send them over to add to this page."
