SPOT 2 recalled

I know that several of you got the new SPOT 2, yet I have not seen any word here about its recall:

"During recent testing, we discovered that some of the new SPOT 2 devices might not meet battery and messaging operating specifications."

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

Hey Eric,
Yeah I saw that a couple months ago. I filled out the on-line form for the recall just yesterday and they said they would be sending me a prepaid shipper to return my SPOT. I'm wondering how long it'll take to get a replacement.

I've never had a problem with mine, but I'll send it in anyway. Apparently there is a problem with some of the units indicating that the batteries need replacement before they actually do. I'll keep using it until I receive the prepaid shipper to send it back and hopefully it won't take too long to get it replaced.

Has anyone sent theirs in yet?
Dave

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

I received my SPOT return envelope in the mail today. They are going to extend my SPOT subscription service an additional 3 months. Hopefully I'll get a replacement in less time than that.

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

Apparently you must send in your SPOT 2 by March 31, 2010 to take advantage of the SPOT Messenger service extension offer.

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

I appreciate they are exchanging the units, but it is a very slow process.

I got mine for christmas and saw the notice when I tried to register it. It took weeks to get the return envelope and I still don't have the replacement.

So I just continue to use my SPOT1

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

I received this email from Spot a few days ago.

"Great News! SPOT Satellite GPS Messengers are starting to ship. Shipments to customers will begin on Thursday, February 18th, 2010. We expect to have all customer returned product out our doors by the first week of March."

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

Well I got one for xmas. I did even try to active because of the people on this site giving me the heads up about the recall. I sent for the mail back....got it in a few days and dropped it off last week. So I am looking forward to getting the unit. And trying it out.

Thanks Eyrx for the heads up!

Ride safe.

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

got mine back this week. I need put in the batteries and start the service before the end of month before my April trip through the middle of Cali. This should be a great test of the tracking feature part of the sevice?

Re: SPOT 2 recalled

I got mine back yesterday and it seems to be working just fine. I fired it up in the house and it was able to track every ten minutes and send OK messages from inside my house.
