Little bit of everything on this ride... mountains, rolling hills and river valleys, giant redwood groves and of course the shot at left- that rather famous unencumbered ride along the Pacific Ocean away from people, towns, well, just about everything.

The Grand Tour - A Noble Pursuit It was on Day 2 that I had that thought. This was The Greatest Day! It really was, a meeting of Pashnit Riders coupled with twisty mountain backroads. Elevations ranging from sea level to 7300 feet in a matter of hours. Taking in Giant Sequoias after riding the spine of a mountain ridgeline, could it get much better? It was four days of riding Central Cal's ocean, mountains, foothills and then to top it all off... a visit to three National Parks! It was truly a Grand Tour of California! |

Released: February 2007 I saw it on the map and thought, I have to go ride that road. I could feel it. Try out this meandering farm trail of a road, paved and deserted past fields of crops, vegatables, orchards and acres of vineyards that stretch up and over the hillsides. Located only miles from the Pacific Ocean, this is by far a leisure ride for the relaxed-no-hurry motorcyclist.

Released: February 2007 The sign reads, 'Not a Through Road'. I like it already. Not reccomended for most, this one is a short out-of-the-way-no-reason-to-ride-this-road located near Rescue, CA. One lane and buried within the rolling foothills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada, Jurgens Rd also has a stream crossing across Weber Creek that you may want to think twice about. Or maybe not.

Irish Hill Rd Have your ridden Irish Hill Rd? The email was a persistent one. It would surface every now and then. What was all the hubbub about? Fantastic roads surround in all directions, this one is sure to fit nicely into your ride plans!!

Sidebar on You can see the cooling tours from all across the entire Central Valley & across the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Located just southeast of Sacramento, I was in the area and just had to go see them for myself. Shut down permanently in 1989, all that's left is a massive Solar Farm, the cooling towers and now a campground and fishing pond for anglers. An interesting history of this doomed power plant.

Buell Ulysses XB12X Just take it out for a day or so and see how she ride. Uh, okay. With a goal being to thoroughy test out what it'd be like to travel on this bike, I covered a 21 hour 600 mile day, night riding, goat trails, twisties, off-road gravel and plunged deep into the backroads of the Sierra Nevada to complete my road test. I returned the Buell Ulysses XB12X a few days later with 1600 miles on the clock. |
